BIOCOMPUTATION & COMPLEX SYSTEMS PHYSICS INSTITUTE (BIFI)
The Institute for Bio-computation and Physics of Complex Systems (BIFI) of the University of Zaragoza is a multidisciplinary research center founded in 2002 with the goal of contributing to the development of new concepts and methods in Complex Systems research, and their applications to Biology, Bio-technology and Bio-Medicine.
Scientists and technical staff at the Institute BIFI work together on a variety of scientific disciplines, spanning from Computation, Physics and Bio-Physics, to Bio-Chemistry and Molecular and Cell Biology, all of whom share a common interest for the development and application of intensive Computational Methods and citizen science approaches. The institute BIFI is thus a place for inter-disciplinary exchange of concepts, methods, and ideas in order to extract meaningful conclusions from old and new scientific questions alike, providing the society with practical solutions to relevant contemporary problems.
The Institute counts on cutting-edge scientific equipment and on an important computing infrastructure housed in a local Supercomputing Centre which constitutes the second largest computer cluster in Spain. Such an infrastructure includes a wide range of technologies, such as HPC, shared memory, cloud, and distributed computing, among others.
Moreover, the BIFI Institute organises important scientific meetings and conferences on a yearly basis, alternating national and international events bi-annually.
The Institute is funded by the Government of Aragon and the University of Zaragoza.
